Monika Pich - Slowmotion
A long view of eternity in the grain of sand.
"Slowmotion" is an immersive vessel for a different kind of sensation—one that surpasses the realistic elements contained within, slowing them down to a drift of molecular phenomena and developments. The energy’s resulting shifts alter our understanding of linear time, drawing us into a feeling, a moment in the now. It endures as waves of sound follow their natural course, rising and falling within an energetic but lowkey atmosphere.
The structure is eclectic, with movements flowing into one another until they don't—inviting the listener to ponder the sounds around the silence. These field-recording-rich soundscapes are punctuated by Robert Demidziuk’s saxophone playing, an artist in his own right, and distorted guitar samples from Darek Garczyk (from Che'eeh Gidi fame), as well as archival recordings of viola by Martina Bertoni and double bass by Mateusz Loska.
"Slowmotion" deftly marries deep, rumbly synths with a nostalgic, almost romantic use of instruments, offering nothing less than a masterpiece of mood. It presents a long view of eternity in the grain of sand, a landscape flattened by immense perspective, yet underscored by a deeply humanistic undercurrent of consciousness and cosmic vitality.
